Welcome to 'Whitestone Country' - Oamaru, a unique town nestled on the coast between Christchurch and Dunedin where you can experience a taste of the past, unique wildlife, dramatic coastlines and much more. From Bella Vista a two minute walk takes you to the town centre. Step back in time and enjoy historic Oamaru's precinct, one of the finest 19th century streetscapes in the southern hemisphere and home to a thriving community of artists and craftspeople. Visit our local museum and art gallery - and look out for locals in Victorian dress!
Just five minutes from the town centre is the blue penguin colony where the birds come ashore each evening. Ask at Bella Vista about viewing times. The famous Moeraki boulders are an easy 25 minute scenic drive south. Moeraki itself is a charming fishing village, full of history. You can drive across the peninsula to the Lighthouse and enjoy a spectacular coastal walk.
Look out for seals, dolphins and penguins. Another easy day trip from Oamaru will take you to the Waitaki River and its tributaries, which are counted among the best recreational fisheries in the world, and are abundant in salmon and trout. The waitaki hydro-electric dam system and beautiful Waitaki lakes are perfect for picnicking with fine produce from the region.
Back in town there are a variety of guided walks of local sights, or you may prefer a game of golf, some retail therapy or a delicious cappuccino and cake at one of our quaint cafes. Oamaru offers a full range of cuisine from casual to fine dining within walking distance of Bella Vista.

Cancellation Policy
If your plans change for some reason, we do understand, and ask that you let us know as soon as possible. Failure to advise us will incur a charge. We require 3 days notice of a cancellation or a charge of one night's accommodation will be made if your room cannot be re-let. Not showing up at all will incur a charge of one night's accommodation. Any change to a confirmed reservation on, or within 3 days of your arrival may incur a charge.
